IQAir HealthPro Air Purifier: From The Military To The HomeI¡¯m a cheapskate. I¡¯ll admit it. I have always believed that many people waste their money instead of being smart about their choices. A dryer in Arizona? Why? Incapable of using a line in the backyard when it¡¯s free? Hmm. Expensive nasal sprays? What¡¯s wrong with a little saline? Crazy. House a little musty? Open a window, for crying our loud. It would have never occurred to me to shell over perfectly good money for something to clean the air in my home. When I first looked at the IQAir Health Pro, I looked at it with my cheapskate eyes and, funny enough, I was convinced. For anyone who is serious about finding the perfect air purifier, the IQAir HealthPro Air Purifier may be the perfect choice. This air purifier has been described as being the very best air purifier available on the market today. This device offers options that simply opening your windows could never provide.
Perhaps when my parents still lived in rural Europe, opening the windows for fresh air would have actually freshened your house. I can tell you right now that breathing my neighbor¡¯s cigarette smoke is not my idea of fresh air. I¡¯m sure others live as we do, in close proximity to the freeway, which leads to a general smell of exhaust. According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, ¡°Even though air pollution is usually a greater problem in cities, pollutants contaminate air everywhere. These substances include various gases and tiny particles, or particulates that can harm human health and damage the environment.¡± On average, 90% of all air particles are smaller than 0.3 microns. The IQAir Hyper HEPA air filtration system breaks particles down to 0.003 microns. This means that this unit has an efficiency rate of about 99%, giving it the highest rating of any other air purifier available. Funny enough, it would easily mean that the air circulated through such a device would be cleaner and freer of particulate than the air in the ¡°great outdoors.¡± I know that even my vacuum comes with a heap filter, but, to be quite honest, I have absolutely no idea what that means. Hepa filters were originally designed in the 1950¡¯s for the military to filter out radioactive dust particulates in nuclear labs. Now, the best air purifiers belong to a series of hepa filter air purifiers which were then designed to be used in hospital clean rooms and microchip-producing clean rooms, like my husband worked in at Motorola. These purifiers are now commonly used in private homes and offices. Some of these now come with what¡¯s called HyperHEPA technology. These trap particles that are ¡°10 times smaller than a virus¡± (http://www.iqair.com/residential/roomairpurifiers/) To me, that¡¯s pretty amazing. It also means that, while we normally share flues and colds every season, this would be something that would keep my kids from sharing what they bring home from school, as it were. When I first looked into the possibility of purchasing an ionic pro for our home, I pictured the old air cleaners I remembered seeing at schools. My teacher ran one most of the day to help get rid of that old, moldy smell. I know she always turned the thing off when she was lecturing because they were so loud. I was pleasantly surprised to find there were several models available for a fraction of the cost I originally thought I was going to have to pay. I was equally surprised to see that so many people are actually using these units! At one site, I was able to read over 400 reviews of a Hunter Air Purifier, but I decided, ultimately, that it was too compact for our dwelling. I eventually selected the IQAir Healthpro air purifier because of the fact that two of my kids have severe reactions to allergens. The unit I selected also features a pre-filtering system and a HEPA filter which makes the unit virtually noise-free. The pre-filters can last up to 18 months and the HEPA have a long life span of about 4 years, which is very cost effective since the average cost of replacing those runs about $200. Okay, so I did spend more money that I had originally planned, but I am happy with my choice and even happier I don¡¯t have to smell my neighbor¡¯s second hand smoke. |

Do Bionaire Air Purifiers Actually Work?
By Charlie Cory
Let's start by discussing the difference between an air cleaner and an air purifier. Air cleaning is when harmful particles are filtered from the air utilizing a filter. An air purifier goes a step further and kills harmful bacteria, mold, and viruses. Ionic air purifiers are referred to as purifiers, they do not operate as purifiers because they do not kill harmful material.
